How to Make Iced Coffee at Home with Keurig

Learn how to make iced coffee with Keurig K-cups and you will never need to spend another dime on iced coffee from a coffee shop. It’s fun, easy, and much less expensive to make iced coffee at home!

I’ve been called a dreamer MANY times over the past 50 years. I’ve had a wish list of big wants and desires most of my life, the earliest dating all the way back to the age of 6 when I dreamed of owning a Schwinn bicycle with a pink banana seat, white wicker basket, and handlebar streamers.

Dreams like that bike were always a bit bigger than my piggy bank would provide for, and it seems that advancing age hasn’t stopped me from dreaming of owning things that I can’t really afford to buy.

I’ve asked Santa for everything from a DSLR camera, to new lenses for that camera. I’ve wished for a professional stand mixer, a new set of kitchen knives, and even a new car… complete with the new car smell!

Some of those wishes came true, and others are still on my list, but this past week, a BIG old longtime wish came true, when I welcomed my very first Keurig coffee brewing machine into my kitchen. It’s FINALLY time for me to #BrewItUp K-cup style!

It’s possible that some of you are shaking your head, wondering why I’m so excited about a coffee maker.  Perhaps a little pre-machine history will help.

Hubs and I are both coffee drinkers, but he prefers his java straight up, with no flavor or add-ins, while I’m a flavor lovin’ girl who likes a little creamer with her coffee.

Flavored coffee and flavorings IN the coffee are two different things, gang. I’m so smitten with the ability to brew any flavor of coffee I want at any given time that I’ve been known to make unnecessary trips to the bank.

While I’m waiting to speak with a banker about a personal loan that I’m not at all interested in actually taking on, I can spin the fun carousel of K-cup flavors and brew myself up some Starbucks® blend or a mug full of Cinnabon® Cinnamon Roll coffee. It’s horribly childish and selfish, but there’s just something about those little individual cups that I find irresistible.

They make MY kind of coffee, just for ME. No sharing, no waiting for 12 cups to brew.  It’s bliss!

Oh, and here’s proof that I’m not the only person in this family to go ga-ga over the ability to brew coffee over ice using K-cups.  Brian was outside pulling weeds from the flower bed when I took our Keurig for its first brew.

I brewed a plastic tumbler full of fresh lemonade using lemonade k-cups, and he immediately plunged into his favorite lounge chair to relax with it!

Incidentally, I find it absolutely adorable and somewhat quirky that my man refuses to drink beverages from a straw, even when they’re placed into the cup for him!

So after I served Brian his lemonade, I went back to the house to brew myself a tumbler full of iced vanilla coffee.  I was so giddy about it, you’d think I’d just won the lottery.  In my opinion, being given my very own Keurig ranks right up there with winning a lottery, so there ya go!

I pulled my essential add-ins from the fridge and got to work preparing my cup-o-love.

Because I’ve never brewed flavored iced coffee at home, it felt sort of strange not using flavored creamer. And by strange, I mean life changing and awesome.

I was told that using the small (6 oz) or medium (8 oz) setting is best for the best brew over ice taste experience.

I placed some creamer into my plastic, heat-safe tumbler, filled it to the brim with ice, and pushed the pretty blue button.  Then the magic happened. My very first Keurig experience, in the privacy of my own home.

Please don’t tell anyone, but I may have danced a little bit in the kitchen as I watched the vanilla iced coffee pour into my cup.

Happiness comes in many forms, shapes, and sizes. This week’s version was 18 inches tall and full of adorable k-cups and brew over ice magic.

I took my cup of vanilla iced coffee and headed outside to enjoy it in the sunshine with the man I love.  There was just one small problem…

  2. Oh yes MUST have coffee! I love the brew over iced coffees. The Nantucket Blend is enjoyable for me because it is without flavors and I can enjoy plain or with a little almond milk in it. I’m glad this wish came true! Now go wake him up. 🙂

    1. I’m SO on an almond milk kick right now, Dionne, but oddly enough, I’ve never had it in my coffee. THAT’S about to change, thanks to you! 🙂

  3. Yet another reasons we were meant to be friends: straws are evil. They were created by aliens to suck out our brains! Just kidding…sorta. 🙂

    1. Right?! Especially those evil PAPER straws! I mean seriously… have you ever tried to suck a thick milkshake out of one of those wimpy things? Pfft… straws are for wussies 😉

  4. I can’t wait to try the coffee kind. I got only iced teas and the vitamin burst! They are tasty!

    1. There are so many great flavors to choose from, I’m not sure what to try next, Meghan! I hope you enjoy your Keurig as much as I do mine!

  5. I’m not sure that there’s any WRONG way to enjoy these K-cups, Jenna! I think the idea is awesome that everyone’s drink can be personalized for them 🙂
