Snacks for the Oscars and Best Picture Nominee Reviews

Snacks for the Oscars are as important as the Academy Awards themselves. At least in the eyes of this food lover. And if you ask my husband, they’re possibly more important.

Brian is guest posting for me today, offering his commentary on the nominees for Best Picture, as well as his nominees for best snacks for the Oscars. After all, I think everyone will agree that television watching of any sort requires tasty munchies.

I’d like to publicly thank Brian for volunteering to create this post. His love for me and support of my business mean the world to me. Friends, my husband is a keeper. 🙂 Thank you so much, Honey… I love you!

Let’s talk snacks for the Oscars! #TheOscarsWhoCares

Easy Oscar Worthy Snacks for the Oscars AND Best Picture Nominee Review |

My wife, Becca, asked me if I’d like to write a little post for you, based on snacks and the Academy Awards show coming up tomorrow night. At first, I thought she was crazy and just didn’t get enough sleep last night. Why would a surgical sales rep want to write a post for a food blog?

Well, Becca and I go to see movies at the theater, and I love to snack. So, who better to review some of these films other than someone who’s been to see some of them?! She also knows I really don’t have any kind of love for The Oscars and thought this might be fun.

So, who are the nominees for Best Picture?

My opinion: Who effing cares about a bunch of pompous, full of themselves actors/actresses and what they’ll do to politicize the show?

But, for those of you who do follow Hollywood, here are my opinions on the nominees, and the snacks that go best with them.

I enjoyed this one and think Denzel Washington did a wonderful job in the lead role. It would have been even better if I had some of her Turkey Onion Meatballs to snack on during the movie.

“La La Land”

While I grew up with all of the great Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, I wasn’t really impressed by La La Land. Not sure what all of the hulabaloo over it is, or why it would get 14 nominations for best picture. I’d rather be watching some of my DVR’d shows while munching on some of her Low Carb Fajita Steak Sliders.

“Hidden Figures”

Awesome movie with a great story line you will enjoy! But again, I need to EAT! Try some Twice Baked Potato Bites and enjoy the movie.

“Hell or High Water”

This is my kind of movie, and I love Jeff Bridges. Lots of action, but the story line drags a bit at times. And because it’s filmed in Texas, it would be better with some of Becca’s Sweet and Spicy Bratwurst Chili.

Interesting movie and I enjoyed it, but I walked out at the end saying “Whaaaat?” Sorry, but with the time line shifts at the end that were flashing back and forth, I got lost and felt perhaps I should go back to see it again, just so I could figure it out. Where’s my rewind and replay when I need it? Bacon Cheeseburger Sandwiches would have made this even better, because that’s just what BACON does!

“Manchester by the Sea”

Here’s another one that was highly touted as a shoe in for awards but left me feeling a little bit “dry” and remembering what it was like growing up as a child in New England. Don’t get me wrong. It was a good story line about how life just happens and the struggles that come with it. Honestly, I’d rather be slurping on some Creamy Seafood Chowder to remind me of my times in New England.

Snacks don’t get much better than those.

Then, we have three Best Picture nominees that I haven’t seen the movies for yet, so I can’t tell you much about them.

Lion”, “Moonlight” and “Hacksaw Ridge”.

Point is, if you love movies, you don’t have to flock to watch The Academy Awards, too. The Media will keep you informed and there’s always the Pre-Oscar Red Carpet Show if you really want to see what your latest ‘fav” actress is wearing or how much she had to diet and for how long to fit into that designer dress.

My suggestion is simple… make yourself some It’s Yummi snacks for the Oscars show.

Enjoy the evening without worrying about who’s going to win or what the food you’ve chosen is going to do to your waistline. There’s always tomorrow, and the gym is always an option then, if you’re so inclined.

  1. I’ve seen two new releases movies in the past year, and neither of them were nominated, unless you count musical score. — Excellent guest post and outstanding recipes! I won’t be watching the Oscars, but I’ll be noshing on some of these goodies, for sure.
